I hope you have already seen this invitation and plan to attend
this event to recall the long history of anti-nuclear activism
that has brought us, with PG&E's Diablo Canyon shutdown
announcement, nine years away from a nuclear-free California.
While the announced timeline is too long by the reckoning of many,
the admission by PG&E that California can get along fine
without nuclear power is worth remembering.<br>

If you had a hand over the last 40-50 years in actively opposing
nuclear power, come share your story and get in on discussion of
the future of energy in California. Please forward this to anyone

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>“In 1958, the Santa
Rosa Press Democrat broke the news about PG&E’s plans
for an Atomic Park in
Bodega Bay. Dairy farmers, fishermen, and residents from <span
class="" style="" id=":l2.5" tabindex="-1">Sonoma</span>
County, San
Francisco, and Alameda County worked together to defeat the
plant in 1964
before PG&E completed construction. Opponents to <span
class="" style="" id=":l2.6" tabindex="-1">Diablo</span>
Canyon
Nuclear Power Plant worked to stop the plant by testifying
before regulatory
agencies in the 1960s and 1970s. The formation of the
Abalone Alliance in
1977 provided a new form of protest involving non-violent
civil disobedience.
Mass demonstrations inspired many people who advocated for
social and
environmental change.” </span></p>
