We can discuss how and why we made the endorsements we did, and factors we can include moving forward. --------- 11/17: Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi Features the Art of Gail Camhi, Jacqueline Ruben, Heike Seefeldt, and Sue Vaughan WHEN: Friday, November 17, 2006 5:00PM-8:00PM WHERE: San Francisco City Hall, 1 Carlton B Goodlett Place, Room 282, San Francisco CONTACT: (415) 554-7630 DETAILS: This month’s featured artists are Gail Camhi, Jacqueline Ruben, Heike Seefeldt, and Sue Vaughan. In charcoal, pencil, pastels, collage, markers, watercolors, and mixed-media, these artists engage us in an exploration of diverse landscape genres. Gail Camhi is showing Landscape of the Imagination. In watercolor, Ms. Camhi uses wet on wet technique to activate responsive dialogues with color, and allows her subjects to present herself as part of the explorative process. Gail Camhi was born in NYC and moved to San Francisco in 1982. She studied painting and drawing at Brooklyn Museum Art School, and later earned a B.A. from Hunter College in painting and still photography. Jacqueline Ruben is presenting Landscapes of Distance and Approach. Her paintings emerge from the spark of all the impressions and sensations swirling around us in the phenomenal world. This mixed media series of four paintings explores the intersection of interior space with the peripheral world. Ms. Ruben teaches adult and youth drawing and painting classes at City College of San Francisco Continuing Education, and Sharon Art Studio in Golden Gate Park. She also teaches art at the San Francisco Unified School District. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States and can be viewed online at www.jacquelineartworks.com Heike Seefeldt will exhibit Landscape of Manipulation. By arranging and manipulating diverse materials in a collage overlay technique, Ms. Seefeldt questions the extent to which raw information is manipulated and channeled by media, politics and religious messages. She is a native German, who received an MFA from University of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany. In 2004, Ms. Seefeldt settled in San Francisco, and has since been working for a great variety of theater, television and mural companies in the Bay Area. More of her artworks can be found on her website www.pintofpaint.com Sue Vaughan will exhibit Landscape of the Human Body. Many of the portrait and figure drawings included in this show were created at the San Francisco Art Institute or the Mission Cultural Center, and are based on black and white photographs from the book, The Body: Photographs of the Human Body, by William Ewing. Sue Vaughan began to explore portrait drawing in high school. She discovered her talent for figure drawing in college. Since then we have helped to: - Pass the ban on old polluting diesel buses - Pass Matt Gonzalez's anti chain store law - Get the downtown hotel workers back on the job, and - Get the Police and Planning Commissions put back on SF Government TV after the City tried to pull them off. Now we are campaigning to get rid of PG&E's monopoly on our electricity service, and start running the City on renewable energy like solar and wind power instead! We have just begun hiring and training new grassroots campaigners to help us win this fight. No experience necessary.
