June 4, 2013 GREENZINE SF Green Party Weekly News and Events NEWS: MANNING TRIAL: Bradley Manning's show trial begins this week--Democracy Now! has some good coverage: http://www.democracynow.org/ TWO CURRENT STATE BILLS: State legislators are weighing a pair of political-transparency bills that the San Francisco Green Party and individual Greens might consider supporting: -- Assembly Bill 400 (Paul Fong, D-Cupertino) would require that circulators of initiative, referendum and recall petitions have publicly viewable lists of their top five funding sources with them when they collect signatures. The bill has received the Assembly's approval and is scheduled to be heard by the Senate Elections and Constitutional Amendments Committee on June 4. -- Senate Bill 52 (Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, and Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo) would require that campaign organizations list their top funding sources on their web sites and in their advertisements. The bill has received the Senate's nod and awaits a committee assignment in the Assembly. These and other bills can be tracked at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov. JUNE EVENTS: 1.
