Hi, At last night's Green general meeting we discussed two options that are being presented to the CA Green delegates regarding how our 132 delegates to the national nominating convention will be obligated to vote. While the SF Green Party did not take a position on either of the two proposals, it appears likely that the CA Greens will choose to 'bind' (require delegates to vote a certain way) CA delegates to the national to vote in proportion with the CA election results from the March Primary. In this case, the only options for CA delegates to the national IN THE FIRST ROUND will be to vote for one of the four candidates on the CA ballot. The debate continues about how CA Greens will vote in subsequent rounds of voting at the nominating convention. Therefore, the SF delegates to the CA meeting on March 27-28 will be free to chose whichever proposal they would like. It is highly likely that the proposals will be amended. At last night's meeting we consensed to include negotiations to add None of the Above (NOTA) to either modified proposal. In any case, these negotiations do not include any language about Ralph Nader or a preference for a presidential candidate who is a registered Green. The issue to be discussed in March in SF is to decide HOW each delegate will vote, not for whom specifically. In conclusion, no one will be compelled to "vote for Nader" at the state meeting, nor at the national meeting.
