Five Decades of Anti-Nuclear Activism
Diablo Canyon and Bodega
Atomic Park:
Conversations & Reflections
Good news! We have quite a few “old friends” coming from around the state, and the program is shaping up to be eclectic and engaging. The following is excerpted from a news release sent out this week to selected “sympathetic” journalists. Mary Moore and Mark Evanoff have volunteered to respond to media calls.
Please help spread the word by uploading the calendar announcement (below) to your local weekly paper's online submission form, or save and then upload the attached Diablo-Bodega Reunion Postcard as a photo post to your Facebook Page (if you have one).
From the news release:
“In 1958, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat broke the news about PG&E’s plans for an Atomic Park in Bodega Bay. Dairy farmers, fishermen, and residents from Sonoma County, San Francisco, and Alameda County worked together to defeat the plant in 1964 before PG&E completed construction. Opponents to Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant worked to stop the plant by testifying before regulatory agencies in the 1960s and 1970s. The formation of the Abalone Alliance in 1977 provided a new form of protest involving non-violent civil disobedience. Mass demonstrations inspired many people who advocated for social and environmental change.”
