Hi all, New revelations of a cover-up of far more widespread radioactive contamination from Navy dumping on Treasure Island (where there is another huge Lennar condo project planned) have also given us a -major- new opportunity to roadblock Lennar's Bayview Hunters Point Shipyard project because of its even worse Navy radioactive and chemical contamination. (To see reports on the new revelations about the Navy cover-up go to these sites: http://tinyurl.com/9jy2dbz - http://tinyurl.com/9296f9n - and http://tinyurl.com/8tqf4pa ) HEARING THIS MONDAY NIGHT Because such a huge scandal has erupted around the Treasure Island cover-up, Supervisors John Avalos and Jane Kim have called a special, single item evening hearing of: - The SF Rules Committee - This Monday, October 15, 5:30pm - SF City Hall Room 250 (the main board chamber) (See the agenda at http://tinyurl.com/952hsm2 ) This hearing gives us a powerful chance to throw a big wrench into the gears of Lennar's redevelopment projects, but not if we don't turn out for the hearing. And if no one shows up from, and to defend, the Bayview, the discussion will only focus on Treasure Island. So Lennar Shipyard opponents need to be there and speak out. Some key things we can demand are: - Both the Treasure Island and Shipyard Lennar projects must be halted immediately until a full -independent- investigation of the Navy, SF/CA Health Departments, Toxic Substances Control Department, and EPA's handling of these development sites is completed; so we can get to the truth. - Both the Shipyard and Treasure Island must be fully characterized for all toxic and radioactive contamination and NO developments can proceed until both redevelopment areas are completely cleaned to -residential- health and safety standards. - The newly created Redevelopment Successor Agency Commission must have at least three of its five members appointed (one each) from the three neighborhoods surrounding the active Redevelopment areas of: the Bayview Hunters Point, Mission Bay, and Transbay Terminal (South of Market); and the public must be given -strong- input on these appointees. - The meetings of the Redevelopment Successor Agency Commission and the Treasure Island Development Board -must- be televised live, and be well noticed, to ensure full public participation. - The hearings promised to us in 2010 on the Bayview Hunters Point Shipyard redevelopment project and the Navy dump sites must be scheduled immediately for November. No more delays! - The City's legally adopted Precautionary Principle ordinance must be followed as the governing law for these development projects.
