Fwd: DEN Alert: Urge Your Rep to Stop Unnecessary Road Kill
Dear SFGP Transportation WG, I thought you would want to know about this critical environmental issue. Congress is currently debating a six year, $300+ billion transportation bill that could have a major impact on the nation's remaining wildlife habitat. Sprawling development related to highway construction is destroying wildlife habitat at an alarming rate. The good news is that leaders in Congress have inserted modest provisions into the bill intended to assure that transportation planners account for wildlife and habitat when planning new roads. Unfortunately, the powerful highway and development lobbies want to pave over these common sense provisions and keep business as usual. WHAT YOU CAN DO: YOU can help protect wildlife habitat from bulldozers by going to Defenders of Wildlife's on-line action center at: http://www.denaction.org and send your representative or Senator a free fax urging him/her to support protections for wildlife habitat in the transportation bill. The bill may be completed as early as the week of JULY 12, so please send your message TODAY. Thanks for helping to protect America's wildlife from poorly planned road projects. Sincerely, Don Eichelberger
