Hi all, there is a lot going on with public transportation right now. I really wish I was more available, as I would like to work with the TWG this year. Here are some things to consider: Maybe we can do some press around these issues, or do as Ross suggested and work to get good turn out at hearings/protests, etc. 1. Muni Metro will be closing the underground tunnels from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am for rennovation for one year, starting Jan 17, 2006. The issue here is that they have not done an adequate job of informing the riding public about this major change. Another concern is that the plans for shuttle bus replacements are not adequate- the shuttles will not have the same capacity or frequency. 2. Bus Rapid Transit and bus lane expansion opposition. In yesterday's chron (front page of the Bay Area section) there was a story about merchant's mounting opposition to expanding bus only lanes and eventually light rail on Geary St (The city's busiest bus line), and expanding bus lanes on Van Ness. We need to hold Jake's feet to the fire on this, to ensure he does not cave to merchant's complaints. 3. C-3 Legislation before the Board Jan 10. Sue Vaughan's letter is great. I hope we can get a Green message infused into the debate, in concert with other transit/enviro groups who are mobilizing around this issue. Maybe we ask Erika to do a press release??? 4. Golden Gate Park: my current pet transit project. A few of us are meeting with Ross to talk about GG park plans, including revisiting Saturday closure of JFK drive, bike lanes on MLK (at 9th and Lincoln), and other ped/bike issues in the park. I can give you a report following our meeting. 5. I hear rumors that Muni will raise the fares again this year- let's keep our ears to the ground. I can help with the GG Park stuff, and can liaison with you about Bicycle Advisory Committee issues. I will try to make meetings later this year, if/when my schedule calms down a bit. peace, susan
