We have our regularly scheduled Transpo WG meeting tomorrow from 7-9. The main thing we need to do is review legislation in order to make recommendations to the GM. There are several issues the GM asked us to look at; I can provide a list tonight. If you can't make the meeting, let me know, but please give your thoughts on the ballot initiatives. The three propositions we should look at in more detail are state props 1A, 1B, and 87. Information/text of initiatives are here: http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_j.htm#2006General 1A - Transportation Investment Fund. Currently, gas taxes go into a fund to invest in transportation stuff, unless the Governor suspends the rules, in which case the funds go into the General Fund. This would make it harder for the Governor to suspend the rules without asking the legislature. I'm generally opposed to dedicating taxes to "transportation" (since that generally means highways) so would be inclined to oppose this. However, if there's evidence that this money goes mostly towards public transit, I'd support it. 1B - Transportation Bonds. $20 billion in bonds to go into a pork-fest. I'm tempted to oppose this, since it looks like a bunch of highway upgrades. 87 - $4 billion in bonds to go to research into oil alternatives.
