Meeting notes from 07-26-05 TWG meeting, July 26,2005 Present: Christine, Jerry, Ed, Sue, Eric Brooks at the end 1. Home Depot -- Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center is opposing and asking people to turn out at a Planning Commission hearing on July 28. Should we ask this group to send us a proposal? Their opposition is based on increased traffic and air pollution. We could have a resolution something like this: Whereas, the proposed Home Depot megastore would be terrible for Bernal Heights as it would create horrible tie-ups on Bayshore Boulevard and Cortland, therefore be it Resolved that the Green Party opposes the proposed Home Depot at the site of the old Goodman�sLumber. We could also include something in the resolution about our 10 key values, and how the GP supports locally-owned businesses that keep money in the communit, and so on. [Jerry called me on 07-27 to tell me he had been in contact with the group opposing Home Depot. This item will be before the Planning Commission on Thursday, July 28, at around 6 p.m.] 2. Concourse -- We remain opposed to traffic in the concourse and support the concept of Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi�s original resolution to this effect; however, as a second choice we support Option 2b, with additional signs to discourage vehicular traffic in the Concourse during the times when the bollards at the southern entrance are down. Sample letter to Dufty, Ma and McGoldrick: Dear Supervisor ______: The Transportation Working Group of the San Francisco Green Party promotes social, economic and environmental justice through the expansion of inexpensive and appealing public transportation services, improved pedestrian areas and safer bicycling. We remain opposed to traffic in the Music Concourse and support the concept of Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi�s original legislation which would have banned almost all traffic in the Concourse. However, as a second choice we support Option 2B, with additional signage to discourage vehicular traffic in the Concourse during the times when the bollards at the southern entrance oare down.
