Our local efforts to promote the Fair Elections Now Act* have been picking up steam. In the last week, we have earned the endorsements of two national organizations for this bill: Small Business Majority and the League of Young Voters. At the same time, behind the scenes we've been making lots of connections with individual and groups. Once we've got official support on these fronts we will let you know.

And we need a few supporters to come out this Wednesday, 7pm....

And importantly, coming up this Wednesday, 7PM, is a meeting of the San Francisco Democratic Party, where they will vote on a resolution to support the Fair Elections Now Act. While it will almost certainly pass, an overwhelming, or unanimous vote, would send a very strong message to our elected representatives that this is an important issue for San Francisco. My sources tell me that turning out a handful of people would be very helpful. You'll only need to come for the beginning of the meeting to make a short public comment, though you're certainly welcome and encouraged to stay through discussion of the resolution.

So, if you're a registered Democrat or independent, please let me know if you might have time to attend this Wednesday, and I'll let you know how many others have signed up and if your attendance is needed.... The meeting will be at the State Building, near City Hall.

Regarding a group meeting, because of the election related activity, we will be holding off on that until after June 3.

*The Fair Elections Now Act is a bill currently in the U.S. Senate, and soon to be introduced in the House, which would create a system of Clean Elections, or full public campaign financing, for all U.S. Congressional campaigns. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both support this bill, and John McCain was a strong Clean Elections supporter in Arizona.
