Last Chance to Email Supervisors about Public Campaign Financing Legislation!
Supporters of Clean Elections ~ *1. Need contacts to Board of Supervisors immediately! *Supervisor Dufty has expressed support for this legislation, so we're targeting other Supervisors now. Legislation to dramatically improve the Board of Supervisors public campaign financing program is going to the Board of Supervisors this Tuesday, so we need you all to email or call the Supervisors today (Monday) or early Tuesday. We need 8 out of 11 Supervisors to vote for this in order for it to pass, so we can't afford to take any chances. See below for details. *2. Proposal to raid fund has been dropped!* The proposal to remove money from the public campaign financing fund has been dropped, at least for the next few months. The Ethics hearing on the matter was cancelled, and plans to put the proposal on the February ballot were shelved. Thanks for your calls and emails! We will keep an eye on things and let you know if anything else comes up. *Need contacts to Board about legislation to dramatically improve public campaign financing program!* The Board of Supervisors public campaign financing program is outdated and does not provide candidates with enough matching funds to be truly effective. As a result, candidate participation in the program has been dropping. *Please contact the following Supervisors: ** *All the following Supervisors* *have generally supported campaign reform and all valiantly stood with us previously when we created the mayoral public financing program. Please thank them for their past support and ask them to please support the legislation to improve the Board of Supervisors public campaign financing program. Let him know that the current spending caps and matching levels are too low, and are resulting in fewer and fewer candidates participating.
