Announcement list for SF Green Party, updated weekly
announce at sfgreens.org
Tue Jul 3 21:58:39 PDT 2012
Dear Greens,
We'll be celebrating Independence Day in our usual fashion, by
campaigning and registering voters at the SF Mime Troupe's opening
week in Dolores Park!
Join us Wednesday July 4, as well as Saturday and Sunday (July
7-8). If you want to help, meet us at 18th and Church at 12:30 pm on
all 3 days. We'll set up a sign and table on the hill overlooking the
event, and stay through the end of each performance (around 4 pm).
We'll have petitions and information on important November campaigns,
including the GMO labeling initative, a veto of the Board of
Supervisors' decision to build more housing for millionaires, and Jill
Stein for President. Please feel free to join us even if you can't
stay for the entire event.

Jill Stein campaign makes history!
The Green Party's presidential nominee, Dr. Jill Stein, has become the
first Green Party candidate in history to qualify for federal matching
funds, and the first non-duopoly candidate to do so since Ross Perot:

Mayor Ed Lee makes history!
Just a week after awarding former Mayor Wille Brown a "lifetime achievement
award" (for corruption?), Mayor Lee called on his police chief to implement
New York City's racist "stop and frisk" policy:

Apparently realizing that the elected Sheriff might have something to
say about this, Mayor Lee became flustered and appeared to commit
felony perjury in his testimony about his decision to suspend Sheriff
Ross Mirkarimi. In order to give the Mayor time to get his story
straight, his allies interrupted his testimony by claiming there was a
bomb threat!
After 6 straight months of Mirkarimi coverage, the Mayor's friends at
the Chronicle were uncharacteristically quiet, but the incident did
receive some local coverage:

KPFA host Davey D. also made the connection between Mayor Lee's desire
to implement more authoritarian policies in SF and his political witch
hunt against SF's most prominent progressive law enforcement officer:

(Credit also goes to Davey D. for bringing up Ross Mirkarimi's history
with the Green Party, which is often swept under the rug even by other
"progressive" media.)

We started making our Fall endorsements at our June monthly
meeting, and we'll continue for the next few months. All our
endorsements are made by our volunteers, so if you want to have input,
please join us by volunteering at any of our events listed on the left
side of our website: http://sfgreenparty.org/events2
Our endorsements to date are listed here:

For those of us who are members of KPFA, we've already endorsed a
position of NO on the recall of Tracy Rosenberg. We agree with the
Oakland Greens' statement on this issue. More details are in the URL
above, and SF Green Party member Ann Garrison also published an article
about the situation:

Donate online!
We recently switched to a new payment processor, which makes it easier
to donate securely online, while keeping more of our donations going
to help our cause rather than ending up in the hands of Wall Street.
More info is on our website:
