NEWS:
1. SFGP is endorsing Summer Heat...a collaborative effort. No Keystone XL
tar sands pipeline. No more life-threatening hazards. No refining of
dirty crude. Refining high-sulfur, low-quality tar sands and fracked oil
increases greenhouse gas emissions and toxic air pollutants. It also
corrodes refinery machinery, which contributes to major industrial
accidents. No more tax evasion.
We need a just transition from dirty fossil fuels to union jobs in clean
energy. Chevron needs to support Richmonds long-term transition to a
renewable energy-based economy thats good for people and the planet. See
details under events below for August 3rd.
2. Check out the Israeli Divestment Campaign protest at CalPERS and new
campaign focusing on Caterpillar's complicity in Palestine and abuse of
workers: www.israeldivestmentcampaign.org.
3. The Green Party Protests the Zimmerman Acquittal and a Justice System
'Stacked Against People of Color and the Poor'

4. City College SF: the Accreditation Committee (ACCJC) has ordered City
College to close next year.
State Assemblyman Tom Ammiano & SF Supervisor John Avalos are fighting to
save it. See event below on July 18th. The ACCJC gets funds from the
public but does not have to follow California laws? They have closed
meetings, have silenced the board and intimidated teachers. None of the
Committee sanctions have anything to do with education. In fact, the
quality of education at City College is ranked very high. AFT 2121 (CCSF
Faculty union) has filed a 280 page complaint with the Department of
Education in Washington D.C. who can override the Commission. Also see
City College Student meeting information below for 7/17.
5. Former Green and beloved activist Jazzie Collins passed away last week.
