Please join us for our first meeting of the new year, at our regular meeting date of Jan 24. We will host a little post-holiday party, in conjunction with our regular meeting where we will begin to consider endorsements for this year's elections. See details below. We have some exciting news to report: a number of progressive San Francisco political and neighborhood organizations are organizing a new group modeled on the successful Richmond Progressive Alliance. Greens are considering joining as an allied group, in order to coordinate with like-minded groups on organizing events such as candidate forums and endorsements. We will send out an announcement of their first public meeting, tentatively scheduled for Jan 21. There are a number of important events happening this month; please see announcements below: *===========================* What: SFPA Press Conference on choosing an Interim Mayor Where: Outside City Hall, on the Civic Center side When: Tues, Jan 9, noon The San Francisco Progressive Alliance (SFPA) has pointed out that having one person (Acting Mayor London Breed) simultaneously in charge of two branches of San Francisco's government is very problematic. We agree: if the same person is both in charge of proposing and approving our City budget, it's a recipe for corruption. Breed's supporters have claimed in an op-ed (https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/Women-stand-with-Londo...) that "the women of San Francisco" support her. A number of progressive women will counter that claim on Tuesday. Please join us! *===========================* What: Green post-Holiday Party and first Meeting of 2018 Where: TBA When: Wed, Jan 24, starting at 7 pm We will start of the new year with a post-holiday party, in addition to starting to consider endorsements. We may make some early endorsements of Green candidates, and will consider some local ballot measures, such as the one that guarantees the right to a lawyer for any tenant facing eviction. We are finalizing our venue, to be sure it is both accessible and family-friendly. Look for details in our next newsletter. We don't plan to make endorsements for Mayor or Supervisor until we have had a chance to get answers to our candidate questionnaires and hold a public forum with all candidates who answer. We hope to co-host a forum with other progressive groups from the SFPA, either in February or early March. Our agenda will be finalized at our CC meeting on Jan 17. Every 4th Wednesday the SF Green Party meets to discuss issues of concern, listen to interesting speakers, endorse events, plan outreach and more! Everyone welcome. We want real divestment, not just talk! Under Mayor Lee, the SF Employees' Retirement System board kept postponing a vote on the matter. This time, it may finally happen. Please show up in support! The Retirement Board will conduct a special meeting to hear the fossil fuel divestment calendar item.
