Here's our press release on the subject: http://www.gp.org/press/pr-state.php?ID=615 Last November, we warned SF citizens against the Ballot Measure B Bond on our website and in our Voter Guide postcard: as expected, the funds were to be used to install ground-up tires, artificial turf and 60 ft. light posts right next to Ocean Beach. The whole project was then to be privatized. The Coastal Commissions report just came out against this plan. See the SFGP Supervisor report card at www.sfgreenparty.org to learn more about this angle and which Supervisors voted to support this ungawdly development project. Then plan to attend the hearing at the Coastal Commission this Thursday April 9th, 10 am in San Rafael. FREE BUS to the hearing stops in 3 places in SF: 9 am at Market and Van Ness; 9:15 am at Judah & 19th Av. N. bound. and 9:30 am at Park Precidio and Geary Blvd. N.E. corner. URGENT decisive meeting. Beach Chalet soccer fields in Golden Gate Park w/ground tires for a base - 60 ft. light poles - The Coastal Commission's report is just out and they say "NO!" The CCC Staff Report calls for major protections for Golden Gate Park, including protecting the naturalistic character of the park. Some of the staff recommendations include NO artificial turf, scaling down the built elements to blend in with the naturalistic environment, and even removing the existing fence! agenda: http://www.coastal.ca.gov/mtgcurr.html The City will fight back.
