Official Vote Results of March 2018 GPCA Standing General Assembly Election

Hello Standing General Assembly delegates, In a strong voter turnout, 100 out of 116 SGA delegates voted in the election that ended at 11:59 PM on April 1, 2018. This will provide you with a summary of the vote results. To view the results online in a format through which you can explore details of the vote, go to: https://www.opavote.com/results/5739660466716672 SUMMARY OF OFFICIAL VOTE RESULTS See detailed list further below. The Coordinating Committee vacancy was filled by Josh Jones. The three vacancies for alternate seats on the GP-US delegation, in order of ranking, were Rodolfo Cortes Barragan, Timeka Drew, and Jesse Townley. The General Assembly minutes from June 2017 were approved. The Ballot Measures were endorsed except for a result of “Oppose” for ID 141, Proposition 70, regarding the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Reserve Fund. The GPCA endorsements are in alignment with recommendations that will be in the Voter Guide produced by Alameda County for the June 2018 primary election. The approval of both Bylaws Interpretations enabled the SGA to vote for the GP-US vacancies (as reported above), and for endorsements of ballot-qualified Green statewide candidates. Also passed was the Endorsement Policy Amendment (ID 155) that enabled us to endorse non-Green statewide candidates who qualify to be on the California ballot, including Peace and Freedom, and No Party Preference candidates, in races where there were no ballot-qualified Green candidates. With three exceptions, all candidates were endorsed. The three exceptions were “No Position” for Governor candidate Chris Carlson, and for both Secretary of State candidates Michael Feinstein and Erik Rydberg. Bylaws Interpretations and Bylaws Amendments were approved, with the required two-thirds majority, with two exceptions, ID 159 and ID 160. Is anyone here familiar with CFAR? Anyone? Hey, Dumbocrats (neoliberal/corporatist judiciaries, legislators & executives at the state and federal political level, not the U.S. Voting Republic) are the left side of the Repiglicans (the crazies, not the U.S. Voting Republic), they both suck, and we all know that, but the CFAR <https://www.dropbox.com/s/v7qb21a0lp3j1ce/CFAR%20Template_House%20of%20Repr…> is missing one important demand... Yes, James, I am very familiar with the CFAR, as I am a signer of that contract. I believe the theory behind that contract is that all of the agenda items are non-partisan and supported by a majority of voters. I agree with everything you're saying about the CFAR missing improving third party access and making our own version for non-Green endorsement, and I'm 99% sure that the 4 non-Greens that we did endorse would support that agenda item. I also think the majority of voters support greater third party access, but I believe the creators deliberately wanted it non-partisan. GPCA Needs and Internal Primaries: SOS No Endorsement

When one candidate receives the majority of the vote to endorse them... Erik Rydberg for Secretary of State and the other candidate receives the majority of the vote to oppose them... Michael Feinstein for Secretary of State and the result is that the Green Party of California endorses no one... changes must be made. We are going to grow as a party exponentially. There will be more and more candidates running for the same seats. This is why I suggest creating an internal primary system where endorsing more than one candidate is not an option. Endorsing two candidates for the same office is meaningless... and not endorsing anyone when you clearly have a candidate that the party is in favor of is hindering. Now GPCA cannot do anything for either candidate. 75% is too high of a threshold when you have two candidates running for the same seat. Especially if both candidates are highly liked by the party which is not the case in this scenario... it was a landslide for one candidate over the other... but if it was a close race, it would be a much tighter in percentages and neither candidate would come out with an endorsement every time. We need to prepare ourselves for multiple good candidates in the same race in the future. We need to take back our primaries that were taken from us by Top Two. We need this internal primary system to be conducted early, well before the filing date closes. We need to lower our endorsement threshold so that we never have a "No Endorsement" outcome and we must never endorse more than one candidate. If we make these kind of changes we will empower our state party to be ahead of the game in terms of campaigning for endorsed candidates, in terms of fundraising for them and in terms of submitting our endorsements to the California Voter Information Guide on time. We cannot afford to be behind the curve when we're running against capitalist funded parties. I hope everyone has paid close attention to who it is among us that fought these endorsements every step of the way. We have to make bold changes if we want bold results. I am very proud that GPCA is going to send a loud signal to Peace and Freedom Party and all socialist and Corporate Free Independent Candidates that we will be inclusive and endorse them. It's the least we can do for Peace and Freedom seeing as they endorsed 5 Greens in comparison the 4 Peace and Freedom candidates we endorsed. This is a step in the right direction. We have a lot more work left to do. I couldn't be happier to be doing this work alongside every member of Green Party CA who wants to grow and build the party. Thank you to every SGA Delegates that voted for me and to those that didn't you will see in time that I am here to help grow the party and take our power back rich capitalists and corporations. Happy Easter, Everyone! The heat has arrived in Sacramento! The river is a bit cold but still managed a float this last Thursday to check the route. I have never floated this early in the year, so late in the day (except intentional full moon midnight floats) or across such wide waters. The sunset hit right after seven and the surface blazed with ripples. I went over the poorest and mightiest section of the small rapids at the heart of the float, and a cartoon tongue of water splashed into my dry raft into my guitar and to overall Disney effect. I floated in darkness for another hour or so before walking out onto the banks of the American River Parkway, and another hour home. Next time I might even use a paddle. If you've read this far, you have until the end of the day to vote for endorsing all of the candidates for statewide office, and a few bylaw revision proposals. Check em out! IF you are the voting sort of person, anyways. Here is John Muir describing riding an avalanche. Chris " When the avalanche started I threw myself on my back and spread my arms to try to keep from sinking. Fortunately, though the grade of the cañon is very steep, it is not interrupted by precipices large enough to cause outbounding or free plunging. On no part of the rush was I buried. I was only moderately imbedded on the surface or at times a little below it, and covered with a veil of back-streaming dust particles; and as the whole mass beneath and about me joined in the flight there was no friction, though I was tossed here and there and lurched from side to side. When the avalanche came to rest I found myself on top of the crumpled pile without bruise or scar. This was a fine experience. Hawthorne says somewhere that steam has spiritualized travel; though unspiritual smells, smoke, etc., still attend steam travel. This flight in what might be called a milky way of snow-stars was the most spiritual and exhilarating of all the modes of motion I have ever experienced. Elijah’s flight in a chariot of fire could hardly have been more gloriously exciting.
