Hi, Thanks for signing up at the SF Green Party's Pride booth to help with our efforts to repeal Prop 8! This list is for volunteers who can help us to collect signatures for a ballot initiative, once that effort gets underway again. If you wanted to just sign up for our weekly e-newsletter, please let me know, and I can unsubscribe you from this list and put you on the other one instead (of course, please let me know if you don't want to be on either list). For those of you interested in the background behind our efforts, we've in contact with people from the statewide organization "Yes on Equality" (yesonequality.org) to help collect signatures statewide for a ballot initiative for a constituational amendment to repeal Prop 8. We've heard that various organizations statewide have reached consensus that the best time to put the question before the voters again will be in the November 2010 statewide election. Once these groups draft the ballot language, the CA Secretary of State will give them a limited time window in which to collect signatures from registered voters. The SF Green Party will help out by asking our volunteers and active members to collect as many signatures as we can to help with those efforts. At this time, I don't know exactly when the signature gathering will get underway again. The campaign first kicked off on Easter in Dolores Park, but the leaders of Yes on Equality decided several weeks ago to stop collecting signatures and try again after more organizations were involved. I am waiting to find out exactly when that will be, and will pass along any news as soon as I hear it. Until then, we're lining up as many volunteers as possible so we'll be ready to hit the ground running! If you know anybody else who's interested, please let me know and I can add them to the list.
