i just went to the memorial service for African American Green Steve Conley at St. Anthony's.
Steve was involved with KPFA for many years, though not as much as those who loved him and his inclusive open mike work would have liked. A number of people from the KPFA community were there as a result, and I had a chance to talk to weekend KPFA News Reporter, and KPFA Local Station Board member Anthony Fest, who told me, for the first time, that his day job is at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), so we talked about that a bit, then talked about the LAFCO hearing.
I urged him to attend, told him I didn't think there was any more important local issue than clean power, and no issue where we have a chance to act locally with more global consequence, and he's going to try to get there with the thought of covering it on KPFA's weekend newscast.
I'm going to see if I can find someone who might start covering the way that this unfolds for FSRN as well. Maybe even Josh Wolf. I'd pitch it to FSRN myself if I didn't plan to try to get down to speak at the hearing.
My own thought about how to heighten the significance of clean power and community choice energy aggregation, which might seem to most like a very local, bureaucratic issue to most news reporters, an anti-war issue as well, because we're at war all over the world now for dirty energy resources, most of all now in Africa, which, in 2007, surpassed the Middle East as a source of U.S. oil imports. The wars for natural gas and uranium all over Africa are at a fever pitch now as well. The number of new uranium mines licensed and/or underway in Africa since October 2006 is really ghastly.

This article is extremely well done and extremely damaging to us. And there will be more assaults like it.
We absolutely -must- get the LAFCo to launch Clean Power SF properly with a lead RFP contractor this Friday. Every day we wait, gives PG&E yet another day to launch torpedoes like this at the clean energy movement.
Every day we have to waste organizing to get our 'allies' on the LAFCo to take action, is a day that we cannot gear up a strong public education campaign to reveal PG&E's lies and show how awesome Clean Power SF will be.
We must act now.
