I see. Prop J doesn't disallow that. Prop J merely requires removal of an equal number of parking spaces. A worthwhile change to the legislation (I left a message on Ross's machine to this effect, telling him he shouldn't support this measure, without changes) would be to add to it a requirement that the surface parking spaces removed under Prop J be removed from the eastern portion of the park in the vicinity of the parking garage. The portions of the streets in Golden Gate Park, now known as Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Ninth Avenue, commencing at the entrance to Golden Gate Park at Ninth Avenue and Lincoln Way and extending to the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Concourse Drive in the vicinity of the Music Concourse, shall not provide for more than one lane in each direction for privately-owned automobile traffic.
