Ditto re PG&E; they threatened to shut off my electricity for four months after I went way into debt to install solar panels on a flat that a few banks still agree to call "mine." It took PG&E that long to acknowledge my solar installation and send someone out to install a net meter. My hair was standing on end every week just trying to keep them from shutting off my power instead. I now at least have a negative $34 electricity bill, but those people, PG&E, nearly drove me out of my mind; all summer I was generating more electricity than I was using and getting F---- ing shut-off notices. The personal---as in personal energetic resources they rob us of this way can't be assigned a $ value. I don't think I'm going to make the Green Fest because I'm trying to write something about Niger, in Central Africa, about allthe foreign uranium mining leases being granted in forgotten, landlocked, Sub Saharan Niger, which was, for almost 40 years, France-AREVA's national uranium mine, but good luck there, at the Green Fest. Now Niger is subject to equal opportunity energy imperialism and it has the third largest uranium reserves in the world. I wanted to draw your attention to a video made by Dennis Brumm, who, with other members of the San Francisco Green Party, produced an educational event, "The Myth of Bio-Fuels," at several Bay Area venues. It was the best educational event I ever saw the SF Greens produce and Dennis then edited it into a "Myth of Bio-Fuels" video. His e-address is brumm@brumm.com, and I think he's asking something like $5 for his efforts on this. Bio-fuels have already cut "US food aid"---a misnomer to start with, much like "African debt"---but we know what we're talking about, and planting to create bio-fuels in the overexploited world have already cut "US food aid" in half. ---Ann Garrison anniegarrison@mac.com (415) 285-7259 (415) 786-6839 "El-Baradei has as much chance of stopping proliferation as George Bush has of stopping the drug trade." --Craig Reishus, Nuclear Free Future Awards website manager, writer and editor On Nov 10, 2007, at 11:29 AM, aliza wasserman wrote:
Hey Green Guerrilla Network,
Our favorite gas and nuclear energy company, PG$E, is a "Partner of Innovation" at the Green Festival. They will have a booth at GreenFest due to their claims as a 'renewable energy innovator'. This is laughably horrific, given the fact that less than 1% of their energy comes from solar, and they have a decade long track record of consistently lobbying against renewable energy policies, and their budget through 2010 includes $0.00 for generating solar.
Other than this big mistake, the Green Festival should be a great place to meet great folks and learn about all-things-green. As such, some of us will be going to this event tomorrow and in between sessions - engaging in some Green Guerrilla action at PG&E's booth. Check out schedule at www.greenfestivals.org and come by the Concourse Exhibition Center at 8th and Brannan, ncar Civic Center. Discounts for bikers.
Would you like to join the Green Guerrilla action at Green Fest on Saturday or Sunday? Give a call to coordinate time and place. 510-717-6599.
Also, we must celebrate the success of Step It Up San Francisco! We had Cindy Sheehan, 5 mayoral reps, 2 Supervisors, 17 partnering groups, 150 participants, a colorful bike ride, a plaza full of eco- cars, solar-powered smoothies, and 5 media hits - including the SF Chronicle, and fully integrated the anti-nuclear and pro-local policy message in to the day. It was all coordinated by non-paid volunteers like you --- so let's celebrate our successful grassroots event! Dinner Tuesday November 13 at 7 pm at Ali Baba's Cave (Valencia & 19).
best, aliza & the green guerrillas against greenwash
