GGB suicide barrier resolution (I have not copied the letter that Kare n brought yet)
Resolution Supporting a Feasibility Study of a Suicide Barrier on Golden Gate Bridge WHEREAS, there have been more than 1,300 documented suicides from the deck of the Golden Gate Bridge since it opened in 1937, and certainly many more that were neither noticed nor reported, because of the ease with which a suicide can be accomplished from the bridge, because it is a social justice issue to protect the lives of persons with emotional disabilities in their moments of impulsivity, and; WHEREAS, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the Marin County Board of Supervisors, the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission have voted in support of a feasibility study for a suicide barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge, now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, that the San Francisco Green Party supports a feasibility study of a suicide barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge, provided that funding does not come from funds dedicated to transportation, that the study is part of a comprehensive suicide prevention strategy, and that all designs are structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing.
