NO ON PROPOSITION 62 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR CAMPAIGN:
The passage of Proposition 62 will make it very difficult for Greens to
participate in a November general election. All Greens are urged to write letters
to the editor expressing opposition to Prop. 62. Sample letter is below.
You are welcome to use the sample letter verbatim.
Sample Letter-to-the-Editor
Editor,
Big business interests are trying to limit our voting choices with Prop. 62.
They want to restrict our options to just two candidates for the November
general election, even if those two candidates are both from the same political
party. And that party doesn't even have to be the party that receives the most
votes in the primary election.
Here's an example of the madness they're proposing. Suppose two Republicans
run in the primary, and they receive 20% and 19% of the vote. Suppose four
Democrats run, and they receive 18%, 17%, 15%, and 11%. Incredibly, under 62, only
the two Republicans would advance to the general election, even though their
combined total is just 39%, while the Democrats, who received 61%, would be
completely shut out.
Individual billionaires associated with the following companies paid at least
$50,000 each for the qualifying signatures for Prop. 62: Broad & Kaufman, the
Gap, Wesco Financial, Paramount Farms, and Berkshire Hathaway; Countrywide
Home Loans paid $350,000.
No other state, other than Louisiana, uses this voting scheme. Don't let the
billionaires fool you on this one. They're trying to confine our November
election choices to just two well-financed candidates who will serve their narrow
pro big business interests. Vote No on Proposition 62.
GO MATT GO! BOOK PUBLISHED:
Green Party activist Nicole Walter's book on the Matt for Mayor campaign is
being released this month! A Book Publishing party will be held on October 25,
from 6 - 9 PM. at The Abandoned Planet Bookstore, located at 16th and
Valencia. If you would like to help out in any way, be it event planning,
volunteering a place or help setting up, designing flyers, or if you wish to speak or

advance. The books will be available at a discount $15 each if purchased through

third party candidates interviewed on Bill Moyer's NOW. Show will air at 10

VOLUNTEER MOBILIZATIONS:
Most campaigns are having ongoing weekend mobilizations until Election Day.
Volunteers are also needed during the week for phone banking and other
activities. Our candidates need your help, so please get involved!

"Alambrista"
Originally released in 1977, "Alambrista" is the epic tale of Roberto, a
young Mexican immigrant, and his painful odyssey crossing the US/Mexican
border. "Alambrista!" has won a host of awards, and stars Domingo Ambriz,
Ned Beatty and Linda Gallen. (A young Edward James Olmos - if you look
carefully - has one of his first, short cameo roles in this film.)
Inspired by a renewed interest among scholars, the film was re-released in
2002, and has made the round of university campuses and public television
stations. Filmmaker Robert F. Young, will be in attendance and has kindly
agreed to introduce the film and take a Q & A from the audience.
"Alambrista!" will be shown on Saturday, October 9th from 3:30 - 5:50 PM at
the Roxie Theatre, located at 3117 16th Street at Valencia. All proceeds to

Let's Put Harvey Milk Back in City Hall!
The Harvey Milk City Hall Memorial Committee presents its inaugural
fundraising event to place a sculpture of Supervisor Harvey Milk in San
Francisco's City Hall. Fundraiser will be held from 7 - 10 PM at the
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center, located at1800 Market
Street in San Francisco. Beverages and appetizers will be provided and the
suggested donation is $10 - $1000. Everyone is welcome. The evening will begin
with a wine & cheese reception from 7 - 8 PM and will feature friends of
Harvey. Matt Gonzalez and others will be speaking. Musical entertainment will
