* Bay Area Groups Demand Halt to Polluting Power Plant Project: Monday, May 5, 9 a.m.
San Francisco City Hall, Polk Street Steps
Group Representatives, with, Sup. Ross Mirkarimi (likely), State Sen. Carole Migden (likely)
Bay Area environmental and social justice organizations, including San Francisco Green Party, Sierra Club, Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice, Huntersview Mothers Committee, Ella Baker Center For Human Rights, SPUR, Our City, and Brightline Defense will demand a halt to San Francisco's proposed highly polluting Peaker Power Plant Project -- aka the Combustion Turbine Project -- proposed to be built in Southeast San Francisco, right next to the Bayview Hunters Point community that is already overburdened with pollution.

* Meet the Candidate, Matt Gonzalez: May 14, 6-7:30 p.m.; $12 members, $20 non-members, $7 students

As president of San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors, Vice Presidential Candidate Matt Gonzalez helped to install rank-choice voting and raise the San Francisco minimum wage. In 2003, he ran for San Francisco mayor in a controversial election, just barely losing to Gavin Newsom. An unorthodox politician and local lawyer, Gonzalez plans to shake up the 2008 presidential race and reframe the dialogue. Join us for another “Get to Know the Candidate” program with Ralph Nader’s running mate in a wide-ranging conversation about Gonzalez’ political views, background and plans for the race in 2008.
