Our big outreach events in June will be the Haight St Fair and Pride. For both of these, we need a new flyer that briefly explains what the Green Party is, and how to get involved. For Pride, we should have a piece that specifically focuses on LGBTIQ rights. I'm thinking that we should make 4x6 full color postcards for each of these. For general info about the party, we should summarize some general platform things that distinguish us from other parties: 1) Oppose war / drone bombing / close US bases overseas 2) End the death penalty 3) Improved Medicare for all 4) Support civil rights for all people 5) End the drug war - legalize drugs and treat addiction 6) Demilitarize police and close private prisons 7) End spying on US residents w/o a warrant 8) Switch to renewable energy sources 9) Publicly financed elections and proportional representation 10) End corporate owned politicians / stronger ethics laws 11) Free public education / abolish student debt 12) Break up big banks This flyer is somewhat relevant: https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/402720391659794504/ For LGBTIQ rights, we should include: 1) Marriage equality has been part of the Green Party platform since we were founded. A strong challenge in the 2003 Mayor's race from Matt Gonzalez prompted Gavin Newsom to join the fight in 2004. Jason West, a Green Party Mayor in upstate NY, was charged with 19 misdemeanors for performing same-sex marriage ceremonies. 2) The Green Party is the only party to recognize equal rights for all LGBTIQ people with regards to housing, jobs, medical benefits, child custody, and all other areas of life. 3) The Green Party affirms the right of all persons to self-determination with regard to gender identity and sex. We affirm the right of access to medical and surgical treatment for assignment or reassignment of gender or sex, based on informed consent. I followed up by drafting the new 4x6" postcards I'd suggested earlier: http://sfgreens.org/new_flyers.pdf Please give me any corrections or suggestions for improvement. I will bring printed copies to this week's CC meeting so we can work on them some more there. JMC -- John-Marc Chandonia (jmc@sfgreens.org) http://sfgreens.org/
Here’s my feedback on Flyer #1: (I can review the LGBTQI flyer sometime this week.) General comment: I’m not sure the bullets are the most visually appealing option. We might be better just having these points indented like they are now but without bullets. Text: Reinvesting [We can't “reinvest” a budget but we can “reinvest” funds.] our bloated military budget on domestic needs, stop drone bombing, and close most foreign military bases ["Re-prioritize our budget away from bloated military spending towards domestic needs; stop drone bombing, and close most foreign military bases"] Ending the failed War on Drugs; treat abuse as health issue ["Ending the failed War on Drugs; treat addiction as a health issue"] Ending warrantless spying on US residents [What does the law currently say? I’m not sure, but I believe only US citizens are supposed to be off-limits for domestic spying. Would stating this as “US residents” mean a change from the current practice (or law)?] Publicly financed, fair, and democratic elections, including ranked choice voting and proportional representation [I’d like to see something like "hand-counting all paper ballots in front of public observers” or other election integrity measures, but this might require group discussion/approval. However, “fair and democratic” does imply some election integrity measures.] Free public education at all levels; write off student debt A Universal Basic Income, and Living Wage jobs ["Universal Basic Income, Federal Job Guarantee, and Living Wage jobs"] Universal Basic Income and the Federal Job Guarantee are policies prescribed by Modern Monetary proponents. Is there a reason UBI is included here but the Job Guarantee isn’t?

II think it will be safe to say I can hopefully table at Fillmore on Saturday. I think that's the first of July. Tribuno del Pueblo is writing about Jerry Brown supporting California sanctuary state. I hope so.
