*Greetings defenders of democracy ~* Our local efforts to promote the Fair Elections Now Act* have been picking up steam. In the last week, we have earned the endorsements of two national organizations for this bill: *Small Business Majority* and the *League of Young Voters*. At the same time, behind the scenes we've been making lots of connections with individual and groups. Once we've got official support on these fronts we will let you know. *And we need a few supporters to come out this Wednesday, 7pm....* And importantly, coming up this Wednesday, 7PM, is a meeting of the San Francisco Democratic Party, where they will vote on a resolution to support the Fair Elections Now Act. While it will almost certainly pass, an overwhelming, or unanimous vote, would send a very strong message to our elected representatives that this is an important issue for San Francisco. My sources tell me that turning out a handful of people would be very helpful. You'll only need to come for the beginning of the meeting to make a short public comment, though you're certainly welcome and encouraged to stay through discussion of the resolution. So, if you're a registered Democrat or independent, please let me know if you might have time to attend this Wednesday, and I'll let you know how many others have signed up and if your attendance is needed.... The meeting will be at the State Building, near City Hall. Regarding a group meeting, because of the election related activity, we will be holding off on that until after June 3. Thanks. Our New Campaign - Clean Elections for U.S Congress!!

Dear passionate supporters of democracy, A new campaign is on the horizon, and I need the help of all of you. I am working now on a national campaign that would bring Clean Elections, also known as full public campaign financing, to all U.S. House and Senate candidates. I have been hired by the national reform group, Common Cause, to build support in the Bay Area and California for this bill, which has been endorsed by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Even John McCain was a big supporter of Clean Elections in Arizona, though he hasn't yet signed onto this bill. So, we have a genuine chance of passing this bill under the next administration. If it did pass, I believe it would mean a major realignment of how politics is practiced in this country, and therefore, the world. Its called the Fair Elections Now Act, and it has already been introduced in the Senate by Democratic and Republican co-sponsors. Our first job is to get the support of Senator Dianne Feinstein, being that she is the Chair of the Rules Committee, which is where the bill is right now in the Senate. I need the help of all of you to figure out how to do this -- in particular, who we need to talk to, and who you know that could help us. Secondly, I would like to put together a group of folks interested in taking on a slightly larger role in the campaign. It would start with a meeting, and then could develop into however much or little responsibility you would like. So, if that seems at all interesting to you, please write me back, and we'll work out a time to have a group meeting. If you just have time to write a letter, email, or make a phone call, I will keep you posted as we proceed on that sort of thing in the near future.
