In California we have the barbarism of the death penalty and the staggering numbers of people in prison, disproportionately people of color. The demonization of illegal immigrants threatens to create a social divide with grave consequences for our community, economy, our borders, and our relationship with Mexico. Everywhere we look, justice has taken a back seat as the 21st century robber barons confiscate and hoard resources at the expense of the planet. Profits for individual CEOs and shareholders have reached unmatched heights, with nothing in place to regulate how much one person can own at the expense of the whole society. Many individuals have personal fortunes that rival the GNP of some nation-states. Enough is enough. It is time to step in, step forward, and stand up for a sustainable future, and that includes economic justice, social change, and accountability in our political leadership. Hi Bevan The campaign to "Dump Dufty" started at 3:01 today when a volunteer at the hearing pulled out a bag of buttons, put one on and passed the bag to the left (I am proudly wearing mine now). Your vote against Healthy Saturdays was beyond disappointing... One of the highpoints of my time working in SF Politics over the past 10 years has been the time I spent working to throw Michael Yaki out of office for his corruption on this same issue. I look forward to the day when no one remembers your name either. Your district supports Healthy Saturdays and you know it. A review of your campaign financing (Nov 06 vs 02) might oneday explain your motives to go against your district, but I am hopeful that it wont matter by then because we will have put a legislator in District 8 that isnt for sale. Need help Monday fliering district 8 for Healthy Saturdays

hey Guys Bevan has indicated that he will oppose Healthy Saturdays - this is unacceptable given the level of support for Healthy Saturdays in district 8. He is basically ignoring his constituency and support Dede Wilsey's efforts to get this on the ballot. This attitude could spell trouble down the road, when we try to get the permanent legislation passed. Bevan would be the key 8th vote if he would step up and do the right thing. Several volunteers have printed up 12,000 Healthy Saturdays fliers to cover district 8 this weekend. They are running a bit behind as of Sunday and could use some help Monday PM. Even 1 or 2 extra folks for a couple of hours could make a big difference. Bevan needs to see how important this one is in his district. If we have to talk to every voter in D-8, we will. drop me a line if you can help and I will hook you up.... we can laugh over beers in D-8 when we are done Ted

URGENT: Car Free Saturdays opponents to hold press conference at City Hall - Tuesday at 11:30 before the bit vote: NEED YOUR HELP

URGENT: Healthy Saturdays opponents are planning a press conference Tuesday a.m. prior to the Board of Sups meeting. We need to ensure that we can counter with facts and keep up the support.... we are closer than we have ever been on this one. Please help: 1) Please hold some time Tuesday at lunch to drop by city hall and show support for healthy saturdays "wave some signs, etc". We will likely need a press conference ourselves to make sure the facts get out. If you can stay for part of the hearing that would be good 2) Let me know if you can spend an hour or two monday night at the bike coalition helping put the event together (eg eat some pizza, make some signs) 3) If you are available Tuesday afternoon to come watch the debate and vote, send me your cell phone and we will phone tree when it comes up. It will be important to have some supporters there. 4) Please forward this email to other folks. We need to get the word out on this final push. Stay tuned for more info (eg exact time and place of our press conference.) Remember, Sundays have been wildly successful for 39 years, even before there was a garage in the park. Now that there is a garage it is time to try Saturdays. This was promised by the opponents and car free space in the park does NOT hurt the de Young We ARE winning this, we have the votes on the board but it is critical that we have a stronger turnout here, otherwise we may be susceptible to the delay tactics that the opponents are currently pushing.
