Yes, I meant canceling last night's meeting. Sorry about the late notice. Christine and Jerry wouldn't have been able to make it anyway. Ed will be gone for the October meeting since he'll be in Japan, I believe. I'll be in the GP office (but a little late as I'll be coming from a transportation-related event at TLC on 6th and Market) if you all want to have the TWG meeting, but Christine can't make it, haven't heard from JMC (still away, I guess), and we don't have an agenda. So, I'll be there in the office -- at about 7:30, 7:45 -- if people want to have the meeting. Otherwise, let's cancel it. Dave Snyder is looking for Green party people to go to an alternative transportation training on Oct. 21-23 here in SF. Be in touch with him if you are interested. His e-mail is in the CC. Sue

The featured guest speaker is the Mayor's newly appointed Director of City Greening, Marshall Foster. Mr. Foster's new job is to envision and help implement a coordinated effort to create more complete streets, delightful for pedestrians, vital with plants and trees and flowers, and comfortable and safe for all users. Come enjoy wine, cheese, and great conversation about what it will take to make a more livable San Francisco, and how Marshall Foster of the Office of Mayor Newsom can help! Hello Everyone: Some of you said you would help volunteer, some said you would table, others didn't say anything (but you might want to come to this event on Thursday anyway). Reminder: What: Celebration of Workd Carfree Day!!!! What can I say? I'm an optimist! How: With a screening of "The End of Suburbia," followed by a panel discussion on peak oil and what that means for transportation in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Panelists: District 5 Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, long-time public power advocate and current chair of LafCo Post-Carbon Institute Director of North American Operations, Dave Room San Francisco Bicycle Coalition Executive Director Leah Shahum Where: The Red Victorian Bed and Breakfast, 1665 Haight Street at Belvedere (NOT the theater) When: Thursday, September 22 What time: I will be there at about 5:30 to set up. I don't think we are going to have to do a lot in the way of setting up. We'll start the DVD at about 6:30, we'll have a break at about 7:45, and then we'll start the panel discussion at about 8 p.m. We will need a couple of people to be at the two doors to direct people into the Community Room of the Bed and Breakfast. We'll need others to staff the Green Party table with Mark Barns, and a tech savvy person to operate the DVD projector (otherwise we're stuck with me). Thanks everyone for all your help. Hello Everyone, Once again, thank you so much for agreeing to participate in our panel discussion on Thursday, September 22, following the screening of "The End of Suburbia." We hope to start the panel discussion at about 8 p.m. The address is The Red Victorian Bed and Breakfast (not the theater), 1665 Haight Street at Belvedere (for Dave, who is coming from outside the city, this is the Upper Haight, nearer to Golden Gate Park, and yes, up steep hills if you don't know the bicycle route called the Wiggle). September 22 is World Carfree Day. Other cities -- especially in Europe -- mark this day with great fanfare, but not so here in San Francisco. World Carfree Day is about pondering our energy and transportation futures. As panelists, you can address these issues anyway that you want, but this is what I had in mind: Ross Mirkarimi -- as chair of LafCo (Local Agency Formation Commission) it would be very interesting to hear about Community Choice Aggregation, Ross's past work for public power, and his thoughts on Proposition 80 Dave Room -- Relocalization and the Post Carbon Institute, the big future energy picture Leah Shahum -- local legislative efforts to advance alternative transportation, especially local changes to interpretation of CEQA and LOS, and anything else that is coming up that we don't know about.
