Also in the news has been upcoming implementation of Instant Runoff Voting
(IRV)/Ranked Choice Voting. Matt Gonzalez held a press conference on this topic
Thursday, July 22. The press conference announced that IRV is ready, and the
community education campaign is being kicked-off.
There is a flash animation that has been developed about IRV in San
Francisco, a kind of mini movie on the Web that shows how IRV works, how voters mark

Join us for this month's Housing and Land Use seminar, when the topic will be
Housing Development, Gentrification, and Displacement: Can We Strike a
Balance that Works? Presenters include the San Francisco Green Party's own Christina
Olague, who is now on the San Francisco Planning Commission, Kate White from
Housing Action Coalition (HAC), and Oscar Grande from Mission
Anti-Displacement Coalition (MAC). If you have any questions you'd like the panelists to
address about the political dynamics of housing development, neighborhood concerns
about building housing, or any other issues related to this month's topic,

This is the sixth seminar in a monthly series on housing and land use issues
sponsored by the San Francisco Green Party and hosted at New College of

Come to a Sneak-Preview Fundraiser Film Screening of "There's Something About
W", narrated by Peter Coyote, with commentary by Molly Ivins, Paul Krugman,

School Board and Community College Board Candidates' Forum
Come and hear candidates for School Board and community college board speak
at this candidates forum, which will be held from 6-9 PM. The location has not
yet been determined. The final decision on the three or less candidates that
we will endorse after the School Board Forum will be made at our General
Membership Meeting on Wednesday, August 22. Incumbent Mark Sanchez has already been
endorsed by the San Francisco Green Party.

NATIONAL WOMEN'S CAUCUS IS SEEKING WOMEN TO RUN FOR OFFICE IN THE CAUCUS:
If you have been waiting for a chance to shine as a woman leader, wait no
longer. The National Women's Caucus of the Green Party of the United States is
seeking women to run for office in the Caucus.
2 Co-chairs (1 year/2 year)
Secretary
Treasurer
2 Spokespeople (1 year/2 year).
Delegate to GP-US CC
Alternate to GP-US CC
All terms are 2 years unless noted otherwise for this election only. The
Committee will be made up of these 8 positions and the delegates to the Diversity
Committee (up to 3). Nominations are open now through July 30th. Please
consider running or nominating someone you think will be a good for the position.
Only nominees who affirm they are running will be placed on the ballot. You
may run for more than one office with the intention
of filling only one, please state your preference. If there are too few
nominees to fill all positions 1 person may fill 2 positions, with the exception
of multiple seats within the following offices: Co-chair, secretary, and
treasurer.
The By-laws task the caucus with electing a diverse leadership. Please
include in your bio the characteristics that you think add to the package you bring
to the table.
Job Descriptions*
Co-chairs: The Co-Chairs shall be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day
affairs of the caucus. The two co-chairs shall direct the activities of the
caucus, make sure that caucus projects are being carried out, and convene
Committee meetings and other caucus meetings. Their responsibilities shall also
include financial oversight and acting as Spokesperson when necessary.
Secretary: The Secretary shall be responsible for managing necessary
communication with the membership, all documentation and records of the Caucus,
including meeting minutes and votes. Minutes will be published in a timely fashion.
Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be responsible for the fiscal management of
the Caucus including regular financial statements to officers and members and
budget work. The Treasurer shall follow all GP-US necessary financial procedures.
Spokespeople: The Spokespeople are responsible for representing the Caucus to
the media and work to promote the Caucus and the GP outside of the party.
Delegate to GPUS Coordinating Committee: The Delegate shall be responsible
for representing the interests, ideas, proposals, needs, actions, achievements
grievances and other elements, reports and updates of the Caucus to the GP-US
Coordinating Committee. The Delegate shall also be responsible for casting
votes and participating in GP-US Coordinating Committee business, as well as
travel to the yearly conference and submitting regular reports to the Caucus. The
delegate is also required to participate in two email lists; the National
Committee Votes and National Committee Discussion lists. Alternate to GPUS CC: The
Alternate Delegate shall be responsible for assisting the Delegate in their
duties and to serve in the Delegate's place, including as a voting Delegate,
when the Delegate is unable to perform her duties. The alternate is an observer
on the 2 GP-US email lists: Votes and Discussion.
*These duties and responsibilities may be further defined in the Operating

Terry Baum had her day in court, but the judge has yet to deliver his final
decision. The judge promised to rule on this case within 10 days of the July 15

San Francisco Green Party General Meeting
The meeting will be held at the SFGP office at 1028 A Howard Street, between
6th and 7th Streets in San Francisco, from 7:30 - 9:30 PM. The agenda will
include a decision on adoption of a Transportation plank for our local platform
(a draft can be found at http://sfgreens.org/transpo10.txt) Also on the
agenda is a Housing and Land Use discussion on pending ballot initiatives such as
the Anti Demolition Ordinance, Housing Bond, and Rent Board reform; and a
Nader/Camejo endorsement discussion and vote.

The Annual Northern California Green Campout
All Greens are invited to join us for our annual social gathering in the Sly
Park Recreation Area, Pollock Pines, California (up hwy 50 in El Dorado
County). You can join us for all three days or any portion thereof. No reservations
needed. Arrive at main gate, and tell them you're with the Green Party at
Dogwood camp. This is a large campsite at the back of a large lake (9.5 miles
around). The campsite is in a tall pine forest at 4000 feet elevation, and is
bordered on the back by only the El Dorado National Forest.
Activities include swimming, hiking, boating/canoeing-BYO boat or canoe, and
a voluntary fireside joke-fest.

Jim Hightower will be appearing at 8 PM at the Women's Building, located at
3543 18th Street, between Valencia and Guerrero in San Francisco. Known as
America's Number 1 populist, Hightower can be heard daily on the radio on KALW,
91.7 FM in San Francisco. Hightower's most recent book is entitled "Let's Stop
Beating Around the Bush". Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Sliding
scale available. Proceeds benefit the humans rights organization Global
Exchange and New Voters are Rising, a program which trains and employs high school
students in low-income and communities of color to register and mobilize

Beyondchron.org recently published a profile of Ross Mirkarimi, candidate for
District 5 Supervisor. The article is available at our web site,
www.sfgreenparty.org. Beyondchron has previously profiled Green candidates for Supervisor
Renee Saucedo and Lisa Feldstein.
Renee Saucedo wrote an article for SanFranciscoSentinel.com, which also
covered Renee's endorsement by Matt Gonzalez. Our own Kim Knox also continues to
publish regular articles in the Sentinel.
The San Francisco Chronicle also did a story on Matt's endorsement of Renee.

The Feminist Issues Group (FIG) will not be meeting in July or August.

GREEN PARTY OF CALIFORNIA POLL
Across the state, many county organizations and individual Greens have
expressed an intention to work for the independent presidential campaign of Ralph
Nader and Peter Camejo. This proposal is to endorse the Nader/Camejo campaign
and it's signature gathering efforts to place these candidates on an independent
ballot line in California. The proposal is made in the interest of unity
within the California Green Party, and to allow both the Cobb/LaMarche and
Nader/Camejo campaigns
to go forward under the Green Party umbrella, assuring that volunteers for
both campaigns work within the Green Party and help us build electoral volunteer
infrastructure for future Green Party campaigns.
Regardless of the results of this poll, the GPCA will place David Cobb on the
Green Party ballot in California in accordance with his nomination at the
GPUS convention in Milwaukee last month. Counties are only being asked whether or
not the GPCA should also endorse the Nader/Camejo campaign and it's efforts
to gain an independent ballot line in California. Counties are free at any time
to act on their own to make this same endorsement on a county level; The GPCA
is conducting this poll to measure support for this endorsement statewide.
Proposal
"The GPCA will both place David Cobb on the California Green Party ballot
line pursuant to the Milwaukee convention, and endorse the signature-gathering
and campaign of the Green Party's Peter Camejo and independent Presidential
candidate Ralph Nader. Nothing in this decision abrogates any county's right to
endorse individually as it sees fit."
Process & Timeline
For San Francisco Greens only, send your opinion/vote to John-Marc Chandonia,
jmc(a)sfgreens.org. Polling will begin immediately and end at 10:00 p.m.

The Campaigns and Issues Working Group will meet and finish developing
questionnaires for school board and community college board candidates. Candidates
for City Attorney and Treasurer are also being recruited, offices that will be
up for election in 2005. Suggestions are welcome. This working group is also
interested in hearing from potential co-chairs. The meeting will be held at
7:30 PM at the SFGP office at 1028 A Howard Street, between 6th and 7th Streets
in San Francisco.
Wednesday, July 14
SFGP County Council Meeting
Meeting begins at 7:30 PM and will be held at the SFGP office. Agenda will
include setting timeline and process for Fall endorsements of candidates and
initiatives, San Francisco coverage on the GPCA Coordinating Committee, review
current San Francisco policy regarding endorsement of non-green presidential
candidates, set agenda for General Meeting, choose facilitators, time keepers,
etc.
Thursday, July 15
Join us at 9 AM in front of Superior Court, 400 McAllister (at Polk) for a
rally and press conference in support of Terry Baum's lawsuit to get all her
write-in votes counted, so she can be on the ballot as Green Candidate for
Congress in CD 8! And then, at long last, the HEARING before the Judge at 9:30 AM in
Room 302. Please come out to support Terry as she FINALLY gets her day in
court! Terry is the Green Party candidate set to challenge incumbent House
Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in the 8th Congressional District. Terry is still

needed. Arrive at main gate, and tell them you're with the Green Party at
Dogwood camp. This is a large campsite at the back of a large lake (9.5 miles
around). The campsite is in a tall pine forest at 4000 feet elevation, and is
bordered on the back by only the El Dorado National Forest.
Activities include swimming, hiking, boating/canoeing-BYO boat or canoe, and
a voluntary fireside joke-fest.

The New Progressive Left Movement Presents Communities Speak for Themselves:
Environmental Racism and Violence in the Community. There will be a panel
presentation by community members and activists followed by open discussion, along

affected by the root causes of these issues, while the battles are being waged in
communities of color. All progressives are invited to join the community
