We can discuss how and why we made the endorsements we did, and factors we can include moving forward. --------- 11/17: Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi Features the Art of Gail Camhi, Jacqueline Ruben, Heike Seefeldt, and Sue Vaughan WHEN: Friday, November 17, 2006 5:00PM-8:00PM WHERE: San Francisco City Hall, 1 Carlton B Goodlett Place, Room 282, San Francisco CONTACT: (415) 554-7630 DETAILS: This month’s featured artists are Gail Camhi, Jacqueline Ruben, Heike Seefeldt, and Sue Vaughan. In charcoal, pencil, pastels, collage, markers, watercolors, and mixed-media, these artists engage us in an exploration of diverse landscape genres. Gail Camhi is showing Landscape of the Imagination. In watercolor, Ms. Camhi uses wet on wet technique to activate responsive dialogues with color, and allows her subjects to present herself as part of the explorative process. Gail Camhi was born in NYC and moved to San Francisco in 1982. She studied painting and drawing at Brooklyn Museum Art School, and later earned a B.A. from Hunter College in painting and still photography. Jacqueline Ruben is presenting Landscapes of Distance and Approach. Her paintings emerge from the spark of all the impressions and sensations swirling around us in the phenomenal world. This mixed media series of four paintings explores the intersection of interior space with the peripheral world. Ms. Ruben teaches adult and youth drawing and painting classes at City College of San Francisco Continuing Education, and Sharon Art Studio in Golden Gate Park. She also teaches art at the San Francisco Unified School District. Her artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States and can be viewed online at www.jacquelineartworks.com Heike Seefeldt will exhibit Landscape of Manipulation. By arranging and manipulating diverse materials in a collage overlay technique, Ms. Seefeldt questions the extent to which raw information is manipulated and channeled by media, politics and religious messages. She is a native German, who received an MFA from University of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany. In 2004, Ms. Seefeldt settled in San Francisco, and has since been working for a great variety of theater, television and mural companies in the Bay Area. More of her artworks can be found on her website www.pintofpaint.com Sue Vaughan will exhibit Landscape of the Human Body. Many of the portrait and figure drawings included in this show were created at the San Francisco Art Institute or the Mission Cultural Center, and are based on black and white photographs from the book, The Body: Photographs of the Human Body, by William Ewing. Sue Vaughan began to explore portrait drawing in high school. She discovered her talent for figure drawing in college. Please help From: Steven Hill Dear Friends and Colleagues, The campaign for Instant Runoff Voting in Oakland (known as Measure O) needs your URGENT help to buy radio ads to respond to negative attacks against Measure O from sleazy political consultants who are opposed to reforming our broken democracy. Allow me to explain. We have been making great strides towards winning on November 7, having secured most of the top endorsements in the city, and waging a vigorous voter contact/outreach campaign (see details below). However, Measure O is now suddenly under attack. Political consutants have created a fake Democratic Party slate card and mailed it to thousands of Oakland voters saying vote NO on Measure O -- even though the Democratic Party has endorsed Measure O (the fake slate card also says vote No on Prop 89, the statewide measure for public financing of campaigns, even though the local Democratic Party has endorsed 89 and the state Dems are neutral). The fake slate card lists the originator as a shadowy independent expenditure committee called "Voter Information Guide" located in southern California. A Google and FPPC search reveals that this is one of those sleazy, for-profit, slate cards where they sell themselves to the highest bidder, and then pose as if it's coming from the Democratic Party. On the front side, which is in tri-color, are large letters saying "Voter Information Guide for Democrats." That is next to a fairly large photo of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and just above a photo of a bald eagle's head. It also says on the front side, "Evaluations and Recommendations by the Democratic Party." In fact, the San Diego Union Tribune did an article exposing this slate card, which during the June primary was mailed all over San Diego. Oakland voters may see more hit pieces like this during the final week. So we are trying to raise money to counter this. Primarily that means buying radio ads, e-mail outreach lists, and possibly automated phone calls, since there is no time to design, print and mail another mail piece. Radio ads will begin tomorrow, featuring a well-known local officeholder plugging Measure O. We have not even raised the money yet for these radio ads, but we are contracting for services anyway. We are going out on a limb because we just can't stand by and watch our victory snatched away. So we are going on faith -- our faith in YOU. We need your donation -- urgently -- today. We are hoping we can rely on you! Fortunately, we already have raised $50,000 and spent that on targeted mail pieces to various selected pools of voters all over the city of Oakland. We also have bought newspaper ads, been doing precinct walking and phone banking. Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.-West Portal Station-Let's remind everyone that we need Kim Knox on the SF School Board. --------- Volunteers Needed for Krissy Keefer's Campaign to GOTV! 1) Volunteer this Weekend 11/4-5 We need to do major visibility on both Saturday and Sunday at Grocery Stores, Parks, anywhere that people are going to be. Do a 3-hour shift with a friend, wave a sign or give out literature on the street. 2) 11/6 Monday Afternoon We need to outreach to voters when they are coming home from work. We will be giving them the Green Party slate cards and waving signs at high-traffic intersections. This is extremely important as people are planning to vote the following day but may not have all the information. 3) 11/7 Tuesday Morning We need to hit as many "transit stops" (places where people are getting on and off BART/ Muni/ Buses...) as we can. In groups of two, you will be assigned a stop and hit it from 7 am - 9 am on the day of the election. 30 people is our goal, which makes 15 transit stops, but the more, the better. Tell your friends? We need people to flier transit stops, hold signs, and precinct walking – YOUR CHOICE!!! Just call us and let us know what you can do to push Krissy past the tipping point.
