Plastic Bags Are Suffocating Us!
Charles Kalish
The Plastic Bag Industry has begun an intensive public relations
campaign. They want to stop legislation that would eliminate the
plastic bag problem in San Francisco. They are clever, crafty, and, of
course, well-funded. The truth is that plastic bags are a worldwide
environmental disaster. The second truth is that countries around the
world are successfully eliminating plastic bags from their shopping
cultures. Plastic bags are a lot worse than we ever could have
imagined. It's hard to believe that they only arrived on the shopping
scene about 25 years ago. Now, between 500 billion and 1 trillion
plastic bags are used worldwide every year according to Vincent Cobb,
founder of reuseablebags.com.

Become a Green Party sustainer!
As you may already know, the SFGP is supported by our wonderful 175
and growing sustaining donors. In the next 12 months we plan to double
that figure, and you can help us achieve our goal by signing up to
make a regular contribution to the Green Party. As a sustainer, we
will add you to our list of donors who make recurring credit/debit
card contributions averaging $10 per person per month. Already our
sustainer program nearly pays all of our basic monthly operating
expenses including rent and utilities on the office, and drastically
reduces the amount of work needed to raise money thereby freeing us up
to do what we're really here for - to pursue Green values through the
democratic system. This program also ensures that we are able to keep
our office, which has hosted numerous campaigns' headquarters
including the successful Prop A, Instant Runoff Voting initiative.

The San Francisco Green Party has endorsed the Platform for Transit
Justice which encourages the Board of Supervisors and the mayor to
reject this budget and encourage the Board of Directors to adopt a
budget that diminishes the subsidies for car drivers further through
increased parking fees and fines. Your testimony in favor of the
Platform will help.

are only two weeks left in this special vote by mail campaign, and
less than 6,000 of the 28,000 voters in Oakland's District 2 have sent
in their ballots. Aimee has gained significant support and can win
this, but we need all your efforts. Please take the time to come by

"Parcel A"; says land is still not safe for unrestricted use

SAN FRANCISCO--The San Francisco Green Party announced today that it
is opposing the current plan to develop "Parcel A", a 75-acre piece of
land that is in the early stages of construction by Lennar
Communities. The announcement comes on the heels of long-standing
concerns by residents of the Bay View Hunter's Point neighborhood,
many of whom point out that the land has not been sufficiently cleaned
of hazardous radiation.
"The Navy had a responsibility to clean up this site, and they have
shirked it," stated Green Party activist and Bay View Hunter's Point
resident Charlene Smythe.

MILIKIN, Theodore "Ted" Henry - UNFORGETTABLE
Suddenly on April 14, 2005, in San Francisco, CA at age
53. Predeceased by parents Ben and Claire Milikin; stepmother, Minnie
Milikin and stepbrother, Eddie Sheftel. Survived by sister, Ruth Anne
Milikin and step-sister, Ruthie Kauffman; brother, Jerry Kroft;
nieces, nephew and many cousins. Glib, erudite, and multi-talented,
Ted was a musician, songwriter, essayist, photographer, award winning
filmmaker,environmental/political/social activist of the left and an
avid cyclist. Forever in our hearts. Now at peace. Condolences or
words of remembrance can be sent to the family at
