Pot Club regulation: Green Sup. Ross Mirkarimi challenges Newsom's
approach on regulating pot clubs. A quote from the article below:
Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, who is leading the Board of Supervisors
effort, said he thinks new regulations will demystify clubs and pull
them out of a subterranean atmosphere. "There's always that threat
(of DEA action). But I think that threat is lessened more by
regulating the clubs. If the Department of Public Health is the driver
of this, we have advanced our ability to rely on doctor-patient
confidentiality," he said. Mirkarimi wants to look at new rules for
all three parts of the medical marijuana infrastructure - the clubs,
the doctors and the growers - and said the most logical places to
start are zoning, public health, planning and land use.

Please join us on this very special evening to honor and celebrate the
life and work of Marla Ruzicka, former Bay-Area activist, friend, and
colleague who was killed in Baghdad on Saturday, April 16. Marla's
work in Afghanistan and Iraq with her organization Campaign for
Innocent Victims In Conflict (CIVIC) brought much needed attention to
the all too often overlooked civilian deaths and losses suffered
during these wars. Marla will be remembered for her tireless work for
justice and also for her unyielding zest for life, remarkable capacity
for joy, and deep loyalty to friends and family. Her spirit will leave
an indelible mark in the world.
In Memory of Marla Ruzicka 1976 - 2005
Bay Area activist Marla Ruzicka spent her 28-year life fighting
tirelessly for justice. She began organizing and educating her peers
about social and environmental issues when she was in high school,
bringing in speakers to her school and volunteering her time with
various organizations. Marla later worked with AIDS victims in
Zimbabwe, refugees in Palestine and campesinos in Nicaragua.
Following the US invasion of Afghanistan, Marla traveled there with
Global Exchange and was so moved by the plight of the civilian victims
that she dedicated the rest of her too short life to helping innocent
victims of war in both Afghanistan and Iraq. She created an
organization, Campaign for Innocent Victims In Conflict (CIVIC), to
count casualties, provide assistance, and pressure the US government
to take responsibility for the innocent civilians harmed by US
forces. She was on such a mission in Iraq when she met her untimely
death on Saturday, April 16, 2005 in Baghdad.
Marla will be remembered for her pioneering work, and also for her
unyielding zest for life, remarkable capacity for joy, and deep
loyalty to friends and family. Marla's smile stopped people in their
tracks and her optimism inspired all those around her. Everyone whose
life touched Marla's is richer for the experience, and her spirit will
leave an indelible mark in the world.
We also remember and honor the work of Faiz Ali Salim, Marla's Iraqi
colleague, who was killed with while working to bring attention and
comfort to civilian victims of the Iraq war.

Gone too soon: Goodbye, Marla Ruzicka, 1977-2005
As many of you know, the conflict in Iraq has claimed another life,
longtime Green Party activist Marla Ruzicka. Marla had been working
in Iraq for the past two years as founder of her own humanitarian aid
organization CIVIC, which assists innocent victims of war in Iraq and
Afghanistan. She was killed by a car bomb on Saturday, and her
untimely and violent death has sent shock waves around the world.
For those of us who knew her, her passing leaves an indelible sadness
which is compounded by the utter senselessness of this war.
For those wishing to honor Marla's life, her family requests that

4. JOIN THE CALIFORNIA DELEGATION TO ARIZONA TO SEND THE MESSAGE: NO
VIGILANTEISM ON THE US/MEXICO BORDER! IMMIGRANT RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS!
On April 17-18, a California delegation of immigrant rights and human rights
activists will be in Douglas, Arizona to respond to the presence of
vigilantes on the US/M?xico border, and to their hate messages.
This group of 20-40 activists, in coordination with allies in Arizona, will
counter the national media coverage and international attention that the
"Minutemen" have received with our message: We will not tolerate
vigilanteism against immigrant communities! Immigrant rights are human
rights!
SCHEDULE:
APRIL 16: Vehicles will leave from Centro del Pueblo, 474 Valencia St. at 7
am. Riders will be expected to pay at least $50 for gas. Drive to Arizona
takes approximately 13 hours.
APRIL 17: Join ally organizations for border vigil.
APRIL 18: Peaceful march and press conference at the border, in front of the
vigilantes' posts.
Return to California. Meeting place in Douglas to be announced.

Gayle is the Green who just won a decisive victory and is the first
Green on the Richmond City Council. We're meeting at campaign HQ at
10:30am for coffee, bagels, and some words from our special guests
from the northern East Bay before heading out precinct walking!

Walk with Aimee Allison, Ross Mirkarimi, and the SF Greens!
Ross is the Green who took over Matt Gonzalez' seat on the San
Francisco Board of Supervisors. We're meeting at campaign HQ at
10:30am for coffee, bagels, and some words from our special guests
from San Francisco before heading out precinct walking!
Both days we'll have breakfast--including coffee and tea--ready for
you at 10:30, and we'll provide a bag lunch as well. Don't forget to

are happening RAIN OR SHINE- if it's raining there's a lot of other
exciting things to do indoors which will keep Aimee's momentum going!

2. The San Francisco Green Party invites you to a house party on
Thursday, April 14, for an exceptional candidate for the Oakland City
Council--Aimee Allison! Co-hosts include Medea Benjamin, Ross
Mirkarimi, Lisa Feldstein, Susan King, June Brashares, Renee Saucedo,
and the Feminist Issues Group of the SFGP. The fundraiser will be
held at the home of Lisa Feldstein at 793 Cole (at Frederick) in San
Francisco, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Her home is near the Muni lines
N-Judah, 43, 37 and 6. Our apologies that the location is not
wheelchair accessible.

3. SF Green Party County Council meeting, Wed April 13, 7:30-9:30
This is our regular County Council meeting where we set the agenda for
the General Membership meeting and make business decisions. All policy
and endorsement decisions are made by our active membership at the
General Meetings.

4. SF Green Party General Membership meeting., Wed April 20, 7:30-9:30
We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month for our regular activist
meeting. Major issues include discussion of College Not Combat
campaign and selecting delegates to the May State Party meeting in Los
Angeles.
An agenda will be posted on the website after the County Council
meeting.

5. SF Green Party Earth Day Open House
Join Green Party activists, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi and School Board
member Sarah Lipson on Friday, April 22nd to celebrate Earth Day at
the Green Party's open house from 6:00-9:00 pm. The event also
celebrates the second year anniversary of the SF Green Party's office
space at 1028 A Howard. If you have not had a chance to visit the
Green Party's local office, this is an opportunity to see what the
Party is doing to make SF a better place. Come on by to meet Greens,
progressive activists, and elected leaders, enjoy light refreshments
and beverages and a meeting-free evening with us.
The event is free and open to the public. 1028 A Howard Street

6. The CA Green Party meets 3-4 times per year around the state to
plan, make party policy, and work on our platform. The next meeting
is in LA on May 20-22. For more information, see
